WiCell is a resource for members of the public to learn about stem cells, by reading some basic facts or, if you're a student, by participating in WiCell classroom activities.
The WiCell Outreach Program is committed to inspiring curiosity, imparting knowledge and encouraging creativity in the minds of tomorrow’s scientists. The vision for the program is to create an exciting environment for conversation, learning and discovery in the area of human embryonic stem cell science.
Our objective is to dispel common misconceptions and provide the public with scientific facts that allow people to evaluate the usefulness of embryonic stem cells in research and the treatment of disease.
WiCell outreach staff work to connect the scientific community to the K-12 students and teachers through education and meaningful interaction. We do this through integrated, collaborative partnerships with university faculty, school teachers and community leaders. We have partnerships with a number of programs at UW-Madison, such as Science Alliance, BioTrek as well as the Madison Metropolitan School District and middle school science teachers in and around Madison.
WiCell fosters these relationships through special programs including Discovery Days for young children, mentoring programs for gifted and talented middle- and high-school students, and specialized programs to encourage pre-college students to consider careers in science.
For more information, please read our stem cell FAQs or contact the WiCell Education and Outreach Team by sending an email to outreach@wicell.org.
