Induced Pluripotent Stem (iPS) Cells

Several human iPS cell lines are available from the WISC Bank. These iPS cell lines include the new vector-free iPS cells reported by Yu et al in the Science article "Human induced pluripotent stem cells free from vector and transgene sequences" (Science Express, March 26 2009) which can be ordered now with delivery to follow shortly.

In addition, WiCell is distributing the original iPS cell lines derived by the laboratory of Dr. James Thomson. In general, iPS cells are challenging to culture, and should only be requested by researchers experienced in the intricacies of human embryonic stem (hES) cell culture. The methods for culture are nearly identical to hES cell culture, although more care and increased maintenance will be required.
