WiCell Celebrates Dr. Tenneille Ludwig's 2024 ISSCR Public Service Award for Leadership in Developing Stem Cell Research Standards

WiCell, a leader in stem cell research and technology, is proud to announce that Dr. Tenneille Ludwig, Senior Scientist and Director of the WiCell Stem Cell Bank, has been honored as co-recipient of the prestigious 2024 ISSCR Public Service Award along with University of Sheffield Emeritus Professor, Peter Andrews. This award by the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR), recognizes Dr. Ludwig's significant contributions to the development of the ISSCR Standards for Human Stem Cell Use in Research.

The ISSCR Public Service Award is a testament to Dr. Ludwig's leadership and dedication in co-chairing the ISSCR committee that developed the standards. This initiative, a collaboration between experts in the field, has set a new benchmark for rigor and reproducibility in preclinical research, propelling the advancement of therapies for patients worldwide.

ISSCR President Amander Clark, Ph.D., praised Dr. Ludwig's efforts, stating, "The development of international standards for stem cell research was a groundbreaking, two-year journey adeptly led by Tenneille and Peter. The result of this international collaboration is a highly impactful initiative that sets the standard for rigor and reproducibility."

Expressing her gratitude, Dr. Ludwig said, "I am honored and humbled to receive this award. I am deeply grateful to the ISSCR for their vision, and to Peter and all the dedicated collaborators, editors, and reviewers for unselfishly giving of their time and expertise throughout the developmental process. Our collaborative work on the Standards initiative highlights the guiding principles of rigor and transparency in research, and their importance in driving the field forward."
